Girl saved after jumping into river

CHITRAL: A young man saved a college girl from drowning when she jumped into Chitral River from Chowni Bridge in Jughoor village to end her life on Wednesday morning.

City police station SHO Munirul Mulk said the girl from Jughoor village jumped into the river to commit suicide. He said Mazhar, a young man from her village, also jumped into the river and saved her life.

He said the girl was rushed to hospital for first aid. She had sustained injuries and was discharged after initial treatment.

Regarding the immediate reason of her suicide attempt, the police officer said that as per initial inquiry the girl was dejected over the decision of her parents about her marriage against her will.

He said no case was instituted against the girl for her suicide attempt as the relevant section (325) was deleted from Pakistan Penal Code.

Three months earlier, another college girl had jumped into the river from the same point on the bridge but she could not be saved. The reason of her suicide was also stated to be marriage against her will.–Zahiruddin
