AKAH arranges tents for rain-hit people

CHITRAL: The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) handed over a truckload of tents to the district administration Lower Chitral for people displaced by the recent rain and snowfall.

The 30 tents were handed over to Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Imran Khan by AKAH regional program manager Muhammad Wali Khan at a ceremony held at the AKAH office in Chitral on Friday. The tents were specially designed keeping in view the climatic conditions of Chitral.

The AKAH officials briefed the participants about preparations made by the agency to meet emergency situations related to climate change in Chitral.

They said the emergency operation center had been activated and 62 centers across Chitral replenished with stockpiles to meet emergency situations. These centers have over 1,200 tents and other items of basic needs to be used in an emergency situation.

Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner said that AKAH has continued its tradition of assisting the district administration in times of emergencies. He said it was heartening that AKDN and AKAH were providing facilities of basic needs to the people in the valley.  The DC paid tribute to AKAH for serving people in distress in all areas of Chitral.

  1. AKAHP should work in remote areas instead of doling out tents and other items in town areas. they are badly needed in Madak Lasht, Bumboret and Golen and such areas. Govt should arrange tents and food items and medicines through its own funds.
