PML-N emerges as largest party in NA with 108 seats

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued the numerical strength of political parties in the National Assembly after allocation of reserved seats while the case of Sunni Ittehad Council (PTI) is still pending with the commission.

According to the ECP, the PML-N won a total of 75 seats in the elections and later nine independents joined the party, raising the number to 84. Moreover, the PML-N was allocated four reserved seats of minorities and 20 of women, further increasing its number to 108 in the house. 

As many as 54 candidates returned to the National Assembly on PPP tickets while no independent member joined it. However, the party got two reserved seats of minorities and 12 of women, hence it has now 68 members in the house.

As many as 81 independents backed by the PTI joined the Sunni Ittehad Council but the ECP has not yet decided on allocations of reserved seats to it.  

With 17 directly-elected members, MQM has now 22 members in the National Assembly as it got one reserved seat of minorities and four of women. Moreover, JUI-F has six elected members and it got two members on reserved seats; PML-Q has three elected members and with one reserved seat and one independent it has now five members.

Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) has three elected members and with the addition of one reserved seat its strength stands at four. Moreover, Majlise Wahdatul Muslimeen, PML-Z, Balochistan Awami party, Balochistan National Party and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party have one member each. 

In the Feb 8 elections, 99 independent candidates for NA won the elections and nine of them are yet to join any political party while elections on three seats have been delayed.
