PESHAWAR: A woman belonging to Chitral and settled in Nowshera has become member of the Khyber Pakthunkhwa Assembly on a reserved seat of the PPP.
The PPP has selected Nilofer Babar, daughter of Begum Suleman of Drosh, on a reserved seat. Nilofer is married to retired Major Babar in Nowshera.
In 1988, the PPP had chosen Begum Suleman as an MPA on a reserved seat of women. In its second tenure under Benazir Bhutto, the party also made her daughter-in-law Muniba Mansoorul Mulk as an MPA on a reserved seat again. Nilofer Babar is the third to become a member of the provincial assembly in the family of Begum Suleman.
Both of Iranian descent, Begum Suleman had close friendship with Begum Nusrat Bhutto, wife of PPP founder and former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Both Begum Suleman and her son Ghulam Mohiuddin of Jinjiret Drosh contested elections on PPP tickets for the National Assembly seat of Chitral in 1993 and 2008, but could not win it.
