Pleas of PTI candidates for choice symbols dismissed

PESHAWAR: The high court of Peshawar on Tuesday dismissed petitions of three PTI candidates seeking election symbols of their choice after \’Bat\’ was taken back by the election commission from their party.

Former MNA Shehryar Afridi, Kamran Bangash and Aftab Alam were not comfortable with bottle, bringal, and wrist watch allotted to them as election symbols by the returning officers.

When Justice Sahibzada Asadullah and Ijaz Khan took up their petitions, the counsel for Afridi said his client was a candidate for NA-35 Kohat and had been allotted the symbol of bottle.

He said the RO had violated the election commission law by allotting the symbol of bottle without consent of the candidate. He said his client should be given some other symbol instead of bottle.

However, the counsel for the election commission said Afridi did not apply for a symbol of his choice  within the fixed deadline and it was not possible to change the symbol at this stage.

The other PTI candidates also wanted some other symbols in place of bringal and wrist watch, but their requests were also turned down.

The court then disposed of the petitions. The candidates of the PTI for NA-1, PK-1 and PK-2 in Chitral have been allotted bottle, hen and pomegranate.
