Govt criticized for not transferring powers to LGs

CHITRAL: The chairmen of different village councils have castigated the government for denying them powers, development funds, salaries and other perks and privileges.

Addressing a press conference here, Sajjad Ahmed Khan, Shahid Ahmed, Mir Dulla Jan, Manzoor Ahmed, Muneer Ahmed Charwelu, Sania Aziz, Anabia Bibi and others regretted the government had promised a hefty salary package for them in the Local Government Act, 2017, but to no avail.

NOMINATION PAPERS: Very few persons turned up to the offices of returning officers concerned to obtain nomination papers for one National Assembly and two provincial assembly seats in Chitral on Tuesday.

Fidaul Karim, Upper Chitral additional deputy commissioner, who is also returning officer for NA-1, Upper Chitral-cum-Lower Chitral, told Dawn that no nomination paper was issued from his office for the NA seat.

While only one form was issued for PK-1, Upper Chitral, from the office of returning officer Ihsanul Haq.

The returning officer of PK-2, Lower Chitral, Dr Atif Jalib said only one nomination form was collected by a candidate.–Zahiruddin
