CHITRAL: The Lower Chitral police have arrested the man who killed two persons in Kaldam Gol, Drosh, in August 2023 and had escaped arrest.
The victims belonged to Shahnigar area of Drosh and had been identified as Ashraf Nabi, son of Gul Nayab, and Ihsanuddin, son of Nehrabuddin.
According to the FIR, Waheedullah, son of Gul Nayab, told the police that his brother Ashraf Nabi along with a neighbour Ihsanuddin was bringing firewood from Muxo Ghari in Kaldam Gol when they were shot dead by Noor Alam of Shahnigar at Banda Noor Alam on August 23, 2023.
Noor, a settler in the area belonging to the Gujjar tribe, had a land dispute with the local people. After the double murder, the killer had escaped along with his family from Chitral and despite a protest by locals remained at large.
The new DPO Lower Chitral, Qamar Hayat, after taking charge took notice of the case and directed the Drosh police to arrest the culprit, said the police in a statement.
On his direction, the police constituted a team headed by Subdivisional Police Officer (SDPO) Drosh Iqbal Karim which arrested him from Dir.
Further investigation in the double murder case is underway, said the police.
This meant that the police were deliberately not arresting the killer for so long.
