The Al-Qadir University Project Trust (AQUPT) is trending everywhere. The case has got Imran Khan arrested.

The AQUPT has been embroiled in a scandal that involves former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan, his wife, Bushra Bibi, and two close aides, Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari and Zaheer Ud Din Babar Awan.

A document seen by a journalist showed, as per Academia magazine, that Khan, Bushra Bibi, Bukhari, and Awan created the trust with the aim of setting up the Al-Qadir University in Tehsil Sohawa District Jhelum, Punjab, to impart quality education.

The trust later signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a private company, Bahria Town, to receive donations from the latter, and Bahria Town allotted land measuring 458 Kanal, 4 Marla, 58 square feet to the trust.

Critics, however, raised questions about the deal, and the scandal emerged when Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah claimed that Khan fixed its shares and undervalued the land transferred through collusion.

Critics also raised questions about the trust receiving millions of rupees in the name of donations for operational activities in 2021 for an under-construction educational institute, which is not yet recognized as a university by the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC).

The trust received Rs180 million for operational expenses, but records showed only 8.52 million rupees. The trustees must provide answers to the people and restore transparency.
