Zakat cheques distributed among needy persons

BOONI: About 100 needy people and persons with disabilities were here on Friday handed over cheques amounting to Rs12,000 each by the chairman of the District Zakat Committee, Muhammad Qasim.

Speaking at a function, he said Zakat funds for 1,500 needy people have been released through cheques which would be distributed in Booni, Mulkhow and other areas.

He said a transparent system has been devised to provide financial assistance to the deserving people. In this regard, the deserving people have been registered after a thorough investigation and they would be issued cross cheques so that the amount is received and utilized by the persons themselves.

Mr Qasim said in the past Zakat funds were misused and the deserving persons were not given their right. Even government officials used to misuse the funds meant for the needy people. Now, however, the PTI government has ensured that the Zakat funds are utilized for the welfare of the poor and destitute only, he added.
