Powerhouse BoD head removed through voting

YARKHUN: People of different villages in Yarkhun through secret balloting on Saturday removed the head of the board of directors (BoD) of Yadgar Utility Company that runs the 850 kilowatt hydel powerhouse in Pavur village.

The powerhouse was established through funds provided by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) under the supervision of the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) in 2017. It provides electricity to scores of villages.

For quite some time, there had been a dispute between the director of the Yagdar Utility Company board of directors and the consumers.

The villagers were demanding replacement of the head but the latter was not ready to step down. Some of the consumers had also removed meters from their houses and got direct connections from the main line.

When contacted, Ibrahim Shah of Pardan village, who supervised the election, told ChitralToday that he had asked all the shareholders of the company numbering about 1,600 to send representatives as members of the board of directors. He said 14 representatives, each representing 100 shareholders, on Saturday turned up from different villages and elected Mir Baiz Khan of Patrangaz as the new head of the BoD.

He said Urkhan and Dewser villages did not send their representatives.
