AYUN: The death of another schoolgirl within just three days in Ayun has become a mystery with the police probing the case to ascertain if she committed suicide or was murdered by someone.
Three days ago, a 15-year-old madrassa student committed suicide by hanging herself after her mother taunted her over a petty dispute. That incident occurred at Sehen locality of Ayun in the absence of Safdar Wali Shah, the father of the girl, who was in Saudi Arabia for work.
Local people told ChitralToday that the teenage daughter of Anwar Khan, a resident of Kuru Road, died on Monday evening and her mother declared not a suicide. The father of the girl is also in Saudi Arabia for work. The mother said her daughter was ironing her clothes after which she came to the courtyard and collapsed.
Police shifted the body to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Chitral and after a postmortem handed it over to the relatives for burial. The postmortem report is awaited to ascertain the actual cause of the death.
Sources also said marks of wounds were found in the neck and face of the girl but it would be premature to say anything about the cause of the death.
The police have also taken the mobile phone of the deceased girl into custody and are investigating.
It is interesting to note that there are similarities in the two families where the teenage girls have died within a short period of time. The fathers of both the girls are working in Saudi Arabia, each of the two mothers were living with their two children – a son and a daughter – and in both the cases the sons were younger than the daughters.
Suicide cases in Chitral have been on the rise especially since last year. In most of the cases young girls have ended their lives but it is not for sure what were the causes behind their extreme steps.
