BUMBURATE: Two mini hydel power stations being established through funds provided by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in Bumburate and Rumbur remain incomplete even after over two years.
Construction of two mini powerhouses abandoned midway
About 70 per cent work was complete on the project at the powerhouse in Gombayak village of Rumbur and 50pc at Bruan village of Bumburate when the contractors left the sites citing non-payment of their dues about two months ago, local people told ChitralToday.
It may be noted that around 50 mini hydel powerhouses were being built across Chitral by the provincial government but most of them are yet to be completed due to different reasons.
The contract worth billions of rupees was awarded to the AKRSP in Chitral by the PT-led government. These powerhouses are to be set up in areas where no powerhouse was ever set up either by the government or by the private sector.
Local people in Kalash valley told ChitralToday that the powerhouse at Rumbur was nearing completion when work on it was stopped. They called upon the KP government to probe the delay and order the completion of the powerhouses to ensure the supply of electricity to the local residents.–Fatah Ullah Kalash
