NAB urged to probe alleged corruption in NHA project
In a press statement, Haji Muhammad Shifa said it seemed National Highway Authority (NHA) had prepared the design of the road and mini-tunnel in order to mint money. He said under a well-prepared conspiracy about Rs2 billion from the national kitty were being wasted, and the NHA authorities were hell-bent to oblige a single individual. “I appeal to the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), retired Justice Javed Iqbal, to send an inquiry team to Chitral to probe the matter. I have all the documentary proof of the embezzlement of the funds and even am ready to bear the travel expenses of the NAB team,” he added. Mr Shifa said that Chitral was a remote area and never been on the spotlight of media and the NHA officials and engineers while taking advantage of this and misusing the public funds. A few weeks ago, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chitral leader Irshad Alam Mukarar accused the NHA of corruption in the construction of the road at Ashret in league with the private company which has been given the contract. He accused the project director NHA of supervising the corruption. Earlier, elected representatives of the village council Ashiret had also alleged corruption in the project. –Jahan Zeb]]>
