Enhanced security for district jail sought
During a visit of Deputy Commissioner Shahab Hamid Yousafzai to the prison, the superintendant of the jail, Amin Shoaib said the building spreads over a vast area in the Denin town and needs stringent security arrangements, including the installation of CCTV cameras and proper lighting system. He said the jail had the capacity of accommodating 12 female and 164 male prisoners at a time and currently there were three women and 45 men detained in the prison. The jail official said there was an urgent need for the replacement of the transformer to ensure proper lighting on the premises of the jail. He said though there was a generator but due to the shortage of fuel it cannot be operated whenever there was no electricity. He also told the DC that the number of mentally disturbed prisoners was increasing in Chitral but the prison had no facility of a psychologist for the consultation of the prisoners. Speaking on the occasion, the DC said in order to resolve the electricity supply issue, three solar panels would be provided to the jail on an emergency basis while to resolve the issue on a permanent basis the WAPDA authorities would be approached to get the transformer changed. On the direction of the DC, assistant commissioner and magistrate Abdul Akram issued orders for the release of two mentally disturbed persons, Shakil Ahmed of Dokandeh Booni and Sher Ali of Karimabad, as they had now recovered from the ailment.–Muhkam Uddin]]>
