New bridge at Reshun unable to withstand traffic load

However, the bridge started crumbling in November the same year forcing the local residents to repair it on a self-help basis by even putting pieces of old carpets and quilts on the gaps. A source in the Communication and Works (C&W) department told ChitralToday that a sum of approximately Rs400 million (four crores) were paid to the FWO for he construction of the bridge. Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif visited the flood-hit areas in Chiral in early Aug 2015. Days before his visit to Booni, the FWO installed a very strong and new bridge over the nullah in Reshun. The people of the area expressed their joy over the installation of the new bridge. But one day after the visit of Gen Raheel, the bridge was removed and taken away. Later, the FWO constructed the current bridge which the residents of Reshun said was of low quality and could not withstand the load of traffic between the Chitral town and the whole areas of Subdivision Mastuj. A source in the C&W department told ChtralToday that about Rs600 million were paid to the FWO for the reconstruction of the damaged road infrastructure from Chitral town to Booni. It may be mentioned that three people lost their lives after a bridge linking Kosht and Bumbagh collapsed on May 23 this year. The bridge was also washed away in the 2015 floods cutting off links to the Mulkhow valley from the rest of the area. Later, the army built the makeshift bridge which soon afterwards developed cracks. The three people were repairing the bridge when it collapsed.]]>

FWO performance remained zero in post-flood reconstruction of Chitral. All the projects like, Kosht Bridge, Reshun Bridge, Kuragh road etc were constructed by FWO which are of poor quality. It was MPA Sardar Hussain (intellectual) idea to give the contracts to FWO which back-fired and now people seriously condemn Sardar Hussain for the ill proposal and FWO for the faulty construction. Interesting thing is that all the payments were made to FWO for the faulty construction and payments of local contractors are still in pending this is the level of Insaf govt. This is the level of transparency in KP and Imran Khan govt. If corruption is made in KP in the form of above-mentioned faulty construction it is not questioned either by C&W one of the corrupt department neither other department. People of calamity hit areas request NAB to make enquiry into all the abovementioned faulty construction after post-flood reconstruction. It is extremely sorry to say that FWO also disappointed people of Chitral and in the future no such contract should not be given to this organization. In case of local contractor people register their complain and make demonstration in case of fault in the construction, if FWO is contractor people right of protest is also taken from them and they live in the state of martial law and do not complain against FWO due to fear factor which also tarnish image of military in the eye of local community.
