Mobile phone service reaches Gasht village of Laspur valley

LASPUR: Mobile phone service has been launched in the remote Gasht village of Laspur valley Upper Chitral for the first time.

Earlier this year, Telenor company made operational its towers in the Yarkhun and Torkhow valleys. Except the far-off Broghil valley, Yarkhun is now fully covered by the mobile phone firm.

Officials working with Telenor said mobile service would be launched in other areas of Laspur in November. However, some residents form the Bang village in Yarkhun told ChiralToday on phone that the quality of service of Telenor had nosedived in the area about a month after it launched service.

They said the consumers in the area were facing very weak signals and connectivity. This happened after a team from Telenor visited the area last week, they added.

The consumers are mostly of the view that other companies, especially Ufone, should also be encouraged to launch their services to promote an environment of competition and end the monopoly of Telenor which is so far the only company providing service in the remote parts of Chitral.
