Thousands reach Shandur to witness annual festival

shandurThe event attracted thousands of local and international visitors who arrived to watch this unusual game at the highest polo ground of the world. Chief Minister KP Pervez Khattak was chief guest on the occasion. Besides, the traditional free-style polo, the spectators are enjoying the traditional games of Chitral. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister announced to increase the development funds for Chitral from the allocated Rs500 million to Rs1 billion. He said that an agriculture university would also be set up in Chitral. The chief minister also announced 1,000 solar power panels for the consumers of the Reshun powerhouse which was damaged in the 2015 floods. The package announced by Pervez Khattak includes a University for Chitral and 55 small hydel power generation projects costing Rs 200 million to facilitate the local population of approximately 50 thousand people and a grant of Rs 1 billion for overall development in district Chitral. He promised that Chitral will be given the lion’s share in the already allocated Rs2 billion for promotion of tourism in the province. The chief minister said the KP province had no dearth of talent in any sphere, and in sports our youth proved their skills on the international level and earned many laurels for the country.]]>
