Autumn polo festival is back after 15 years

CHITRAL: The traditional autumn polo festival has been revived here after 15 years.

Before the formal start of the 10-day festival, a function was held at the Town Hall from where the polo players and a large number of spectators and organizers took out a rally to the polo ground. The polo ground was on the occasion decorated with buntings and flowers.

As many as 35 polo teams, including three from Chitral Scouts, two each from the police and Chitral Levies, are participating in the festival.

Talking to the local media on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Chitral Aminul Haq and the president of the Chitral Polo Association, Shahzada Sikendar Ulmulk, gave the credit to restart the festival to secretary KP tourism corporation Azam Khan to promote tourism in the area.

They said the secretary tourism corporation had also promised to release funds for the payment of the areas to those polo players who had made preparations for the Shandur polo tournament in 2015 that could not be held due to the floods.
