MS unable to get hospital garbage disposed of
CHITRAL, July 22: A number of patients’ attendants from the female ward and new private ward at the District Headquarters Hospital Chitral complained to the medical superintendent (MS) of the hospital about the heaps of garbage near the ward and the foul smell emanating from it. After meeting the MS, Dr Noorul Islam , the attendants told this correspondent that for the last three days they had been bringing the problem into the notice of the supervisor but no action was taken. “In the holy month of Ramazan, we have been snuffing the horrible smell of garbage beside our patient’s ward and could not sleep for three days,” said Sahibuddin, an octogenarian attendant. “We have come here for the treatment of our relatives but there are chances that even we ourselves would fall victim to the germs breeding in these garbage,” said the attendant. He said one of the female patients in the ward started vomiting because of the foul smell . While responding to the complaints of the people, the MS passed on the responsibility to the TMA. The MS said that the hospital administration had already brought the issue of garbage into the notice of the TMA for disposal. “Our duty is to keep the hospital and wards neat and clean but it is the duty of the TMA to dispose of the waste,” he also added. “Through DC office, we have lodged our complaints with the TMA and even approached the chief minister’s complaint cell but the TMA has failed to fulfil its duty,” said the MS. The protesting patients’ attendants returned to the wards only to console the patients.– Alhaj Muhammad Khan]]>
