CHITRAL, July 26: Doctors at the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital, Booni, boycotted their duties on Thursday in an attempt to get one of their residential house vacated from a civil judge. The doctors closed down the outpatient department and refused to see patients in protest against the alleged illegal seizure of one of their residential houses by a civil judge. Shah Nadir, a doctor at the hospital, said medical personnel transferred there needed the residential house for their families. Nadir added the hospital’s authorities handed over the keys to the residential house to Civil Judge Minhajul Hassan when he shifted to Chitral. At the time, there was a lack of living space and doctors at the THQ were living in their own houses nearby, he claimed. However, when Hassan left the house after living there for 16 months he gave the house keys to another civil judge, Inam Khan, added Nadir. He alleged that Khan was living in the house illegally while two newly-appointed doctors who needed the house were living in one of the hospital’s wards. Nadir demanded the government retrieve the house from the civil judge, adding doctors would not resume their duties unless authorities take positive steps in this regard.—Express Tribune ]]>
In the past, doctors were considered to be humanists with pain for the ailing society. However, with the passage of time as other things changed, these white coats also started losing their respect mainly because they forgot their responsibilities and stopped taking care of patients.
The reason behind this abrupt change could be lack of moral, ethical knowledge where dishonesty takes its roots easily and that is what happened to the saviors of mankind. The white coats who got MBBS degrees and entered the profession maligned the profession badly.
The majority of doctors in Chitral are ordinary medical officers with simple MBBS degrees from some state-run or privately owned medical colleges. A good number of them have also obtained MS degrees equal to MBBS from Russia and China, which nothing more than the qualifications of a quack.
The recent strikes led by Dr Shah Nadir at the THQ hospital Booni against a civil judge for alleged occupation of a government residence reflects the hollowness of the white coats who are spreading this dirty politics even to a remote district like Chitral.
The series of strike calls given by these doctors must be stopped forthwith. A large number of poor patients have already died due to negligence of doctors in Chitral while the remaining waiting for proper medical care will also perish if the tehsil administration did not take timely action against these so-called messiahs.
At the same time, I would like to mention an emotional rejoinder in response to a letter written by Sahib Nadir (advocate) about the dilapidated condition of the district headquarters hospital Chitral.
The newly-appointed president of Insaf doctors association, Dr Nazir Hussain Shah, has tried to defend the publicity mongering, political bribe – Iftar package – introduced by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) provincial government.
The poor patients admitted in the hospital from the far-flung areas of Chitral do not even fast during Ramazan but the doctors belonging to the PTI and the well wishers of MNA-hopeful [which is unlikely even after 15 years] Mohammad Lateef, are all praise for a meaningless Iftar package introduced by the provincial government. This money being spent on the publicity Iftar could have been wisely spent in providing better medical care to the patients in pain.
The doctor has also claimed with pump and show that the DHQ hospital is a model for the area. Alas, dear doctor it seems you have just heard about the word model. You still have to learn the full meaning of a model thing and if ever you get a chance to visit some other country, you might be able to know the real meaning of a model.
The provincial government instead of introducing the Iftar package should have paid attention to provide free medicines to the poor and needy patients. The thing which needs special emphasis is that the doctor has fell short of comparing the dribbling urine bag with AXE, a perfume that has the magnetic power to attract opposite sex.
My dear Dr Nazir Hussain Shah, if you have become so addicted to the smell of these dribbling urine, you must not impose your thought on others to bear with you the dirty bed-sheets which people say are washed once a year – smells and the filth drums full of cockroaches.
@Ahmad, Islamabad: Indeed a very commendable job and a timely response to all those busy in serving their political masters for their own vested interests. Job well done I must say Mr. Ahmad as expected. But the thing which just you forgot to mention is the name of daily Dawn correspondent Zahiruddin who acted as he is the spokesman for medical superintendent (MS) District Headquarters Hospital Chitral. The emotional letter written by the journalist in question [Zahiruddin] is also no different than that of Dr Nazir Hussain Shah. Before acting as a spokesman for MS DHQ hospital Chitral, the journalist should have thought once that he is a correspondent for one of the country’s top English language newspapers. I am so disappointed to see such a disgusting letter by Zahiruddin, posing serious questions on his credibility.
