CHITRAL, June 29: Police are still groping in the dark to trace the culprits who attacked the house of a local human rights activist the other night. Niaz A. Niazi advocate reported to the police that his garage and a vehicle were put on fire after hurling stones at his house. An official of the local police station said no one had been nominated in the report by Mr. Niazi, so the police are investigating different persons in the locality after registering a case against unidentified persons. The lawyer was not present in his home when the incident occurred. While talking to this correspondent, he said that he had no enmity with anyone but had always protested against human rights violations with special reference to the growing cases of suicides of girls in Chitral. He said that his strong voice in the platform of HRPC might have displeased some persons who sent a warning to him by burning a part of his house and vehicle and torturing his children at the time when he was out of the district. Meanwhile, in the emergency meeting of the district bar association, the lawyers’ community demanded of the government to bring to book the responsible persons of the incident and provide the lawyers with security.–Zahiruddin]]>
