MNA Chitral finally speaks against Musharraf's trial
ISLAMABAD, June 29: MNA Chitral Shahzada Iftikharuddin has finally broken his silence over the government’s move to try former president Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the constitution for imposing emergency in the country on Nov 3, 2007. Speaking on a point of order in the National Assembly on June 28, the MNA said instead of proceeding against the former military ruler the government should focus on burning national issues such as energy crisis and terrorism. He said the trial of Musharraf under Article 6 would certainly open a Pandora’s box. Mr Iftikhar is the lone MNA elected on Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) from Chitral. The MNA said that as far as collaboration with the military dictators was concerned, there is not a single party in the country that has not collaborated with the military in the past. He said instead of adopting the path of confrontation, if the government focused its energies on the resolution of public issues it would be better for the overall welfare of the people of the country. He was of the view that at this stage, when the country was facing numerous challenges both at the national and international levels, the nation cannot afford the path of confrontation.]]>
Bahot dheir ker di meherban aatei aatei, anyway better late than never!
Better late than never and the credit for reminding the MNA to fuflfill his national obligation by defending Gen Musharraf, without any doubt, goes to Chitral Today and its excellent team, comprising professional and brave journalists. The story in Chitral Today about our dear MNA’s inability to defend Musharraf, has proved to be a blessing in disguise for Shahzada Iftikhar Uddin.
