Clashes Break Out on Pak-Afghan Border

Clashes erupted along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on the night between Saturday and Sunday, involving heavy and light weapons.

The fighting took place in multiple areas, including Kurram, Angoor Ada, Bajaur, Dir, Arandu in Chitral, Barmcha, and Chagai district in Balochistan. Chitral Scouts reportedly targeted Afghan posts across the border.

According to BBC, Afghan forces reportedly opened fire on Pakistani positions and Pakistani military sources said their forces responded with “strong and intense” fire, targeting several Afghan posts. Residents near Kurram reported attacks from three directions.

Local authorities and residents reported that the firing started around 10 p.m. local time, continuing for several hours. Multiple border posts on both sides were involved, and security forces patrolled the area to prevent further escalation. Hospitals in nearby towns received injured civilians and security personnel, although the overall number of casualties remains limited.

Two people were injured on the Pakistani side, and at least one received treatment at Parachinar District Headquarters Hospital. No official confirmation of casualties on the Afghan side has been released.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned Afghan attacks on civilian areas, calling them a violation of international law, and warned of a strong response. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said details of the Afghan operation would be revealed in a news conference at 11 a.m. local time.

The border remains tense, with exchanges of fire reported at multiple locations. Authorities on both sides continue to monitor the situation closely.
