TORKHOW: Residents of Ujnu village in Torkhow, Upper Chitral, have  complained about an acute shortage of water in their area and called for resolving the issue on a priority basis to provide relief to the people.

They said: \”We are deprived of drinking water even during the holy month of Ramazan. Women and children are forced to fetch water from a canal three kilometers away. Public Health Department and Deputy Commissioner Upper Chitral should arrange water for us on emergency basis.\”

They told Chitral Today that over 50 families of Ujnu Tung were deprived of drinking water. Over 40 years ago, a water supply pipeline was laid through the public health department. The 4,000 feet long pipeline is now completely blocked due to rusting resulting from lack of maintenance.

The locals tried to repair and reopen the supply line but did not succeed.

The residents have now appealed to the  deputy commissioner, Upper Chitral, MNA and the Public Health Department take notice of the public issue and get it resolved.
