Islamabad, Feb 21, 2026: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) will soon be made operational in Gilgit-Baltistan to strengthen security and improve law enforcement across the region.
The announcement was made by the Caretaker Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Justice (R) Yar Muhammad Khan, during a meeting with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad.
The two discussed security arrangements for the upcoming elections, the overall law and order situation, and measures aimed at promoting tourism in the region.
The caretaker chief minister emphasized the importance of activating the CTD at the earliest to effectively deal with security challenges. In response, Mohsin Naqvi assured full federal support, stating that the department would be provided with modern technology and advanced weaponry. He also pledged that all necessary requirements of Gilgit-Baltistan would be met to ensure a peaceful and stable environment.
The interior minister further assured that additional security personnel would be deployed during the elections to maintain peace and order. He added that a secure and peaceful atmosphere is essential for boosting tourism, which remains a key sector of Gilgit-Baltistan’s economy.
