Booni, Jan 29, 2026: : Five union councils of Upper Chitral may face difficulties in the upcoming anti-polio campaign due to heavy snowfall, which could affect access for field teams and delivery of vaccines.
A meeting regarding preparations for the anti-polio campaign, scheduled to begin across the province including Upper Chitral from February 2, 2026, was held here with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Finance & Planning) Muhammad Anwar.
Deputy Commissioner Upper Chitral Muhammad Imran Khan and District Health Officer Upper Chitral Dr. Farman Wali attended the meeting via video link.
The District Polio Officer briefed the participants on the arrangements for the anti-polio campaign. He informed participants that the campaign will run from February 2 to February 5. He stated that out of the total 10 union councils in Upper Chitral, five have already received heavy snowfall, raising concerns that some areas may miss the campaign if access remains restricted. The government has been informed of the situation.
The official also updated the meeting about the details regarding polio teams, the number of targeted children, and field staff deployment. He said that training of field staff has been completed, while the supply of vaccines is still pending. He also stressed the need for timely sharing of the security
Addressing the meeting, the Additional Deputy Commissioner emphasized that maintaining the district’s previous strong performance in polio eradication requires collective effort from all stakeholders. He assured full cooperation and support from the district administration to ensure the success of the campaign.
At the end of the meeting, he along with the Assistant Commissioner Headquarters and Health Department officials, formally inaugurated the anti-polio campaign by administering polio drops to children. They urged parents to ensure their children are vaccinated against polio and to fully cooperate with the field teams.
