Peshawar: Jan 14, 2026: A meeting with KP Assembly Deputy Speaker Suriya Bibi in the chair here reviewed issues related to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools in Upper Chitral.

The meeting, held at the KP Assembly’s conference room, discussed the rebuilding and renovation of schools, staff shortages, repair of institutions damaged by floods and snowfall and the release of funds for these purposes.

Senior officials from the Elementary and Secondary Education Department attended the meeting, including Special Secretary Education Muhammad Masood, Director Education Naghmana Sardar, DEOs and officials from the Communication and Works Department.

Officials from the Education, Planning and Development, and Communication and Works departments briefed the deputy speaker on measures being taken to improve the condition of schools in Upper Chitral.

The briefing covered the construction of new schools, recruitment of Class-IV staff including watchmen, provision of equipment for IT labs, repair of schools affected by floods and snowfall, and the introduction of second-shift classes.

Addressing the meeting, the deputy speaker noted that Upper Chitral was a remote and underdeveloped district with limited educational and employment opportunities. She said that recent natural disasters had destroyed several schools, forcing students to study in the open amid harsh weather conditions.

She directed the relevant authorities to immediately start evening classes in areas where second-shift schooling was required so that children were not deprived of education.

The district education officers (male and female) were instructed to submit their recommendations to the Education Department at the earliest.
The deputy speaker also directed monitoring teams of the Education Department and district education officers to visit schools, identify on-ground issues, and prepare a comprehensive plan for their resolution.

She further instructed officials to submit proposals by the following day for the early launch of classes under the double-shift system.
Emphasis was also laid on making IT labs functional in schools and providing students with Chromebooks. The deputy speaker directed district education officers to complete necessary work related to the construction of examination centres and the regular recruitment of school watchmen and forward the proposals to the relevant authorities.

The deputy speaker thanked all participants and expressed hope that the concerned departments would work with dedication and sincerity to ensure access to education for students in underdeveloped districts such as Upper Chitral.
