PESHAWAR, Jan 4, 2026: Gilgit-Baltistan won the inaugural Khyber Polo Tourney by defeating Chitral 7-3 in a thrilling match in Peshawar on Sunday.
The GB side dominated the contest from the outset, scoring the opening goal and setting the tempo of the game. Although the score was level at 3-3 at halftime, GB maintained their superiority in the second half and finished strongly to secure the title.
Chitral’s team selection raised several questions, particularly the decision to include half-fit Izhar Ali Khan.
The absence of experienced players like Nasirullah and Muhammad Ilyas proved costly, and their inclusion could have changed the outcome of the match.
Equally noticeable was the absence of Shahzada Sikandarul Mulk from the event. Not seeking the input of a figure who single-handedly developed polo in Chitral from scratch appeared to be an unwise decision.
