Chitral, Dec 26, 2025: Police in Lower Chitral have registered an FIR against two elected local government representatives for allegedly dumping hazardous solid waste into the River Lotkoh, posing serious threats to public health and the environment.
According to the FIR available with ChitralToday, the case has been registered against Nawab, Village Council Chairman Ziarat, and Alauddin, Village Council Chairman Parabeg, along with other unidentified individuals at the Garam Chashma police station.
The case was registered on the complaint of the tehsil municipal officer (TMO).
The complainant stated that action should be taken against the VC chairmen for their failure to fulfill their responsibilities and instead contributing to environmental degradation.
The incident allegedly took place on December 19, 2025, when hazardous solid waste was reportedly discharged into the river in Garam Chashma, a vital source of water for local communities and aquatic life.
Police officials stated that video evidence of the dumping incident surfaced on social media, triggering public outrage and prompting legal action. The FIR noted that the act endangered aquatic life and residents who rely on the river for drinking, irrigation, and other daily needs.
The case has been registered under Section 66, Subsection 2(a)(3), Schedule IV, Part 1, Serial No. 8 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act, 2013, as amended in 2018, along with other relevant environmental and criminal laws.
