ISLAMABAD, Dec 4, 2025: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO) here clarified that the individual arrested in the United States, initially reported as a Pakistani national, is in fact an Afghan citizen.
FO spokesperson Tahir Andarabi issued a statement confirming that the person, identified as Luqman Khan, is not a Pakistani citizen but an Afghan national. According to the spokesperson, government-level inquiries revealed that while Khan had previously lived in Pakistan as a refugee, he spent the majority of his life in the United States.
Andarabi said media reports referring to him as a “Pakistani citizen” were inaccurate and misleading.
Earlier reports had indicated that 25-year-old Khan was arrested on the night of November 24. According to U.S. media, police stopped a truck in Canby Park West where Khan was present. When he allegedly failed to comply with police orders and resisted arrest, he was taken into custody. During the investigation, authorities reportedly recovered a pistol, magazines and documents suggesting a planned attack. The documents reportedly included a layout of the University of Delaware police station, entry and exit points, and the name of an officer.
Following the arrest, the FBI conducted a raid on his residence on November 25, where additional advanced weaponry was reportedly discovered. U.S. authorities had initially claimed that Khan was a Pakistani-American and a student at the University of Delaware planning an attack on the university’s police department, information that has now been corrected.
