BANGKOK, Dec 3, 2025: Myanmar’s military has carried out a major crackdown on online fraud centers operating in border regions, rescuing hundreds of foreign nationals, including 38 Pakistanis, officials said on Wednesday.
According to Thai authorities, the army entered Myanmar’s border area and recovered the 38 Pakistanis who had been held inside scam compounds. They were immediately transferred to the Bangkok Immigration Center, where officials will deport them in phases. Thailand has formally notified the government of Pakistan about the operation through an official letter.
Thai officials also reported that an additional 60 Pakistanis are staying in a shelter facility after fleeing similar fraud centers in Myanmar. The Thai government has urged Pakistani authorities to investigate the deported individuals and launch action against agents involved in trafficking them. It has also recommended placing the deported persons on the Exit Control List (ECL) for five years.
Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said Myanmar, Thailand and Cambodia have become major hubs for transnational online fraud networks. These syndicates advertise fake call-center jobs and work visas to lure young people from various countries.
On arrival, victims are detained, their travel documents seized and they are forced to work in scam operations targeting people around the world.
The FIA has warned Pakistanis to remain vigilant and avoid falling for deceptive job offers and overseas employment schemes promoted by human traffickers and cybercrime networks.
