Islamabad, Nov 4, 2025: Denmark has once again been ranked as the world’s leading nation in upholding the rule of law, according to the World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index 2025.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has maintained its 130th position, showing no improvement from the previous year.
The WJP report reveals that the rule of law has weakened across most of the world, with 68 percent of countries recording a decline compared to last year.
Among the top performers, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Sweden continue to dominate the rankings, reflecting strong legal institutions and governance standards.
The United States dropped to 27th place, while China showed a modest improvement, moving up to 92nd. India retained its position at 79th.
At the bottom of the list, Venezuela (143rd) and Afghanistan (142nd) remain among the lowest-ranked countries. The report also notes that Russia and Sudan have seen significant declines in their standings.
According to the WJP, the erosion of constraints on government power and the rise of authoritarian tendencies have contributed to the global downturn in rule-of-law standards, threatening accountability and justice worldwide.
