The Gujjar community in Chitral organized a large thanksgiving rally and public gathering in Drosh Bazaar to express their gratitude to the KP government for officially declaring Gujari as the sixth parliamentary language of the province.
A significant number of Gujjar elders, community leaders, youth and social and political figures participated in the rally, carrying banners and placards bearing messages of appreciation for the provincial government and its leadership.
The participants chanted slogans highlighting the importance of linguistic diversity and unity within the province.
Speakers addressing the gathering described the recognition of Gujari as a parliamentary language as a historic and visionary decision, emphasizing that it marks a milestone in the preservation and promotion of the Gujjar people’s linguistic and cultural heritage.
Press Conference
Addressing a press conference at the Chitral Press Club on Saturday, prominent Gujjar leaders Haji Anzar Gul, former nazim Sher Muhammad, Maulana Abdul Rehman Gujjar, Maulana Fazl Azim, Maulana Fazl Alam, Gul Feroz, and Abdul Qayyum expressed their deep appreciation to Speaker of the KP Assembly Babar Saleem Swati, all members of the provincial assembly, and Federal Minister Sardar Muhammad Yousaf for their role in supporting the resolution.
They stated that the inclusion of Gujari alongside English, Urdu, Pashto, Saraiki, and Hindko as the sixth officially recognized language marks a significant achievement and a source of immense pride for the Gujjar community.
“This recognition represents the long-awaited victory of the Gujjar Qaumi Movement, which has been advocating for the official recognition of Gujari since the 1970s,” the leaders remarked.
They added that this step would pave the way for the greater inclusion of the Gujari language in education, public administration, media, and cultural development across the province.The speakers further highlighted that several distinguished personalities, including former President of Pakistan Chaudhry Fazal Elahi, former President of India Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, and Major Tufail Shaheed (Nishan-e-Haider), hailed from the Gujjar community, which has made notable contributions to national history and public service.
The community leaders also expressed special gratitude to MPAs Khadija Bibi, Arifa Bibi, Sardar Shah Jehan, Sardar Riaz, and Naeem of Swat for their consistent support and active role in ensuring the passage of the resolution.
