Chitral, Sept 6, 2025: An accident took place early Saturday morning involving a bus of Marvi Travel Service that was en route from Islamabad to Chitral.
Passengers reported that the accident occurred at about 4:45am on a dangerous turn after crossing the two Lowari tunnels. The Yutong bus, which was said to be in a dilapidated condition, suffered a gear failure, as a result of which the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The bus was carrying 24 passengers, including children, families, and students. Fortunately, all of them survived the accident without any injuries. Police reached the site at around 5:10am and provided assistance.
One of the passengers, Umar Rafi, said that the bus was not only in a rickety condition but was also being driven by a driver from Punjab who was traveling to Chitral for the first time. He added that the driver’s lack of familiarity with the treacherous mountainous route multiplied the danger faced by the passengers.
Another traveller contacted ChitralToday by phone and complained that even after the passage of more than two hours, the transporter had failed to arrange an alternative bus to carry the stranded passengers onward to their destination.
It may be mentioned that such accidents on the Islamabad–Chitral and Peshawar–Chitral routes have become common, largely due to the poor conditions of the roads as well as the lack of maintenance of passenger vehicles, which continue to put the lives of commuters at serious risk.
