Bumburet Steps into Digital Era with Satellite Connectivity

CHITRAL, Sept 2, 2025: The remote Bumburet Valley, home to the Kalash community and a major tourist destination, has finally been connected to the digital world.

The Kalash Valley Development Authority (KVDA) has launched satellite phone and Wi-Fi services in the valley, marking a significant step towards improving communication, supporting tourism, and easing the lives of residents.

KVDA has also set up camping pods to support eco-tourism. To familiarise locals with the system, the authority announced one month of free internet and phone service for the community.

KVDA Director General Minhasuddin called the project a turning point for the valley. He said residents had long struggled with poor connectivity, which limited emergency communication and discouraged visitors.

“The satellite phone service gives faster, more reliable access to residents. Tourists can now stay in touch with families and instantly share Kalash culture, traditions, and scenic beauty with the world,” he said.

He confirmed that KVDA will extend satellite connectivity across all Kalash valleys. He also praised board member Sartaj Ahmed for playing a key role in making the project possible.

Local elders and tourism operators welcomed the facility. They said stronger communication would improve tourist safety, promote cultural exchange, and create economic opportunities for local businesses. Young residents voiced excitement over easier access to online education, job opportunities, and social platforms.

For the Kalash valleys — famous for their unique festivals, traditions, and hospitality — the launch marks an important step. It connects their centuries-old heritage to the modern digital world while giving residents long-awaited access to reliable communication.
