MULKHOW, Upper Chitral, Sept 1: A woman went missing on Monday morning after leaving her in-laws’ home in Madak village of Mulkhow, local sources said.
During a search in the area, residents found her footwear on the bank of the Mulkhow River, raising fears that she might have committed suicide by jumping into the water.
Police, Rescue 1122 teams, and local volunteers have launched a search operation along the river. Authorities have appealed to people living near the river to assist in the search and to immediately inform Mulkhow police if the body is found.
On August 14, 2015, a married woman, aged 23, went missing in Nishku village of Upper Chitral. Her body was recovered from the riverside in Ayun on August 24. Based on a handwritten note she had left behind, a man was arrested a few days later after an outcry by social media users.
In another incident, a teenage girl ended her life by jumping into the river in Attani area of Ayun on August 31, 2025.
