Lahore, Aug 31, 2025 (APP): Punjab is battling the worst floods in its history after heavy monsoon rains and what officials call “Indian water aggression.”

The disaster has displaced communities and left two million people affected across the province.Irfan Ali Kathia, Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), said all three major rivers in Punjab are in flood.

The deluge has submerged 2,200 villages. Rescue teams have already evacuated 750,000 people to safer places.He said water in the Sutlej River has fallen at Kasur but continues to rise at Head Sulemanki. Authorities fear more inflow by evening.

By September 2, floodwaters from the Sutlej and Chenab will merge. The flow at Trimmu Barrage has already reached 361,633 cusecs. Rising water will touch Head Muhammad Wala and Multan tomorrow, with risks at Head Muhammad Wala and Sher Shah Bridge.

Kathia stressed: “Our first priority is to save lives and evacuate people from danger zones.”A new monsoon spell has worsened the crisis. Lahore saw heavy and scattered downpours. Lightning in Kahna killed two people.

In Ferozewala, a roof collapse killed one woman and injured three others. Rains also lashed Faisalabad, Narowal, Bahawalnagar, and other districts. In Azad Kashmir, including Mirpur and Bagh, heavy showers raised fears of flash floods in streams and nullahs. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Abbottabad, heavy rain increased risks of floods and landslides.The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a nationwide alert. It warned of urban flooding in plains and landslides in mountain areas.

The Meteorological Department forecast thunderstorms and rain in Islamabad from Saturday to Tuesday. It predicted heavy showers in northern and northeastern Punjab, including Lahore and Sialkot, on Sunday and Monday. Central and southern Punjab will also see widespread rainfall in the coming days.
