BATAGRAM, Aug 23, 2025: Authorities suspended a police officer in Batagram for asking inappropriate questions to a Dutch female biker. They also launched an inquiry against three other officers involved.
The incident involved Noraly Schoenmaker, a well-known motorcycle traveler from the Netherlands. She is currently touring Pakistan. On August 20, Geo News reported that police repeatedly stopped Noraly and asked her intrusive personal questions.
Police first stopped her to check documents. Then, they assigned two officers to escort her. Instead of helping, those officers kept handing her over to different police teams.
In total, six separate teams questioned her. They asked for her name, age, and travel documents. But things got uncomfortable when an officer asked, “Why haven’t you married at 37?” and “Where is your husband?”
Noraly stayed calm and cooperated. But she later expressed her frustration and asked, “Should you ask such questions to a female tourist?”
The incident sparked backlash on social media. Many criticized the police for unprofessional behavior. In response, authorities suspended one officer. They also started a formal inquiry against three others. Tourism advocates say Pakistan needs better police training to ensure respect and safety for foreign visitors, especially solo female travelers.
