Torkhow protesters stop NHA from shifting machinery from road without completion

Torkhow Residents Block Road Over Abandoned Asphalt Work

TORKHOW, August 4, 2025: Torkhow residents blocked the main road on Monday to stop the contractor from removing construction machinery.

They protested the sudden halt of the asphalt project promised in the 2025–26 Annual Development Programme (ADP). Funds were allocated to blacktop the Torkhow Road, but the work never began.

Instead, the contractor started moving machinery out of the area. This triggered the protest.

“We won’t let the machines leave until they restart the work,” said one protester. “This road keeps our villages connected.”

The road is vital for access to hospitals, schools, and markets. Residents accused the authorities of neglect and breaking promises. They are demanding that the work resume immediately. They also want a full explanation of how the funds were used and action against those responsible.

The road blockade caused hours of traffic disruption. As of this report, the contractor and district officials had not made any statement.Residents say they will continue protesting until the project restarts.
