Chitral woman reunited with kids after escaping abusive marriage

CHITRAL– In a significant development, a woman from Ayun, Lower Chitral, who had been forcibly separated from her children after fleeing an abusive marriage in Nowshera, has been reunited with her two children thanks to the timely intervention of Tehreek Huqooq-e-Chitral and the police departments of Chitral.

The mother had returned to her hometown after enduring sustained domestic abuse. Upon leaving her marital home, her in-laws allegedly evicted her and refused to hand over her two children – a 4-year-old son and a 5-month-old baby – keeping them in Nowshera.

The incident triggered outrage on social media and among local activists. Tehreek Huqooq-e-Chitral, a well-known civil rights movement in the region, took swift action by raising the issue with authorities and coordinating with law enforcement to recover the children.

“The mother was in distress, but we were determined not to let this go unnoticed. With the help of police officials, we ensured that justice was served,” said a representative of Tehreek Huqooq-e-Chitral.

Both the Chitral police and Nowshera police played a crucial role in tracing the children and facilitating their safe return to the mother. The woman is now back in Ayun with her children and receiving community support.

Call for Stronger Protection Laws

This case has renewed calls for stronger legal protections for women and children affected by domestic violence and unlawful child custody practices. Activists emphasize the importance of building support systems for survivors and ensuring quick legal recourse in similar cases.

Community Commends Efforts

Locals in Chitral have praised both Tehreek Huqooq-e-Chitral and the police departments for their effective collaboration. The case serves as a powerful example of how grassroots activism and responsive governance can work together to protect vulnerable individuals.
