Leaders of Torkhow protesters booked under 16 MPO

BOONI: Authorities have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against six leaders of the Torkhow-Terich Road Forum (TTRF) in the aftermath of the recent protest held in Booni, Upper Chitral.

\"FIRAccording to police sources, the FIR has been lodged under Section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) and different sections of Pakistan Penal Code for threatening government and other officials and blocking roads against Umair Khalil, Shoaib Mir, Waqas,  Hafeezur Rehman, Abdul Wahab and Peer Mukhtar.

Police officials have confirmed the registration of the FIR and said an investigation was currently underway.

The FIR comes days after TTRF organized a protest in Booni demanding immediate action against officials and political figures for alleged corruption in the road project, and immediate restart of work on the stalked project.

While the protest remained largely peaceful, officials claim that certain actions during the gathering posed a potential risk to public order, prompting legal action under the MPO.

Meanwhile, TTRF members say they were exercising their constitutional right to peaceful protest and have vowed to continue their struggle for basic infrastructure without intimidation.
