BOONI: A joint search operation conducted by security forces in the Laspur valley resulted in the death of an armed suspect, while a police officer sustained injuries during an exchange of gunfire.
According to sources, an operation was carried out in the otherwise peaceful Laspur valley by a combined team of Chitral Scouts, Upper Chitral Police and Levies personnel.
The action was launched following reports of a suspicious individual spotted with a weapon at a shop in Sor Laspur the previous night. The suspect allegedly threatened locals before fleeing the scene.
Security forces responded swiftly and launched a crackdown in the area. During the operation, the suspect opened fire on the personnel, injuring a police officer.
The injured officer was immediately shifted to a nearby health facility, where he is reported to be out of danger.
Forces recovered the suspect’s body along with weapons and other evidence from the site at Brok village.
Authorities have stated that the search operation in the area is still ongoing to ensure there are no other accomplices or security threats.
A week ago, security forces had killed one armed man in an operation conducted in Bashqar Gol near Laspur. Another armed man had reportedly escaped and he was believed to be hiding somewhere in Laspur valley.
