Beggars from down country swarm Chitral

Section 144 imposed to curb begging, illegal fundraising

CHITRAL: A noticeable increase has been observed in the number of beggars arriving in Chitral from other districts, said the district administration.

Some of these individuals have started moving towards the outskirts of Chitral town, entering people’s homes and sitting outside mosques to solicit alms.

In addition, people from various parts of the country are heading to Chitral under the pretense of collecting donations for mosques and religious seminaries, while some are seen asking for money in markets and places of worship.

These activities have become a source of public concern and exploitation of vulnerable individuals. They also create obstructions in public spaces and markets, causing inconvenience to residents and disruptions to business activities.

There are concerns that some of these individuals may have links to criminal networks, posing a potential threat to the peace and security of the region.

Considering the situation, Deputy Commissioner of Lower Chitral Mohsin Iqbal has imposed Section 144 in the district. Under this order, all forms of begging and unauthorized fundraising or donation collection are strictly prohibited.

This order takes immediate effect and will remain in force for a period of two months. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the directive.
