PESHAWAR: Deputy Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Suriya Bibi held an emergency meeting with the secretary and chief engineer of the Communication and Works (C&W) Department as people of Torkhow started another protest with a march to Booni over the Booni-Buzund road project.
The Torkhow and Terich Road Forum (TTRF), has arranged the protest and participants are marching towards Booni.
The protesters alleged advance payments to contractor of the project work on which has again been halted.
The deputy commissioner of Upper Chitral was also called to attend the meeting. During the meeting, Suriya Bibi expressed strong dissatisfaction and informed the officials about the public allegations.
She later issued written instructions to the secretary C&W to form a committee within three days. The committee will include elders from the Torkhow-Terich area, C&W officials, district officers and construction experts.
The committee will review all past and current payments and look into any irregularities. A report will be prepared and shared with the public.
If anyone is found responsible, legal action will be taken, she added.
However, the protesters rejected the committee and called for a judicial inquiry into the allegations saying they would present evidence of corruption in the project.
It may be mentioned here that the project to construct the Booni-Buzund road was launched about 16 years ago and so far not even half of the 30 km road has been completed.
Locals say that the government has released 1.25 billion rupees for the project so far, but the project is plagued with of corruption and irregularities.
