Minority children rights in KP

Minority children’s rights in focus in KP

PESHAWAR, May 16: The National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC) held its first-ever consultation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa focused on challenges faced by children from religious minority communities.

Facilitated by NCRC Member Pirbhu Satyani, the session brought together representatives from Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Baháʼí, and Kalasha communities, alongside civil society and government officials.

Participants highlighted discrimination in schools, lack of representation in curricula, and non-implementation of minority quotas in education and jobs. Concerns over violence and exclusion faced by minority children, especially in remote areas, were also raised.

Government officials shared updates on the Hindu Marriage Act Rules, now awaiting KP Cabinet approval—a move welcomed by attendees.

Satyani reaffirmed NCRC’s commitment to child rights and called for inclusive policies, interfaith harmony, and strict enforcement of constitutional protections. The Commission also shared its two-year progress and complaint redressal mechanism for child rights violations.–APP/ChitralToday
