Youth in limbo

Aqib Ullah

The storm of political instability doesn\’t seem to be calming any time soon. As a result, the rank and file, especially the youth, have been put on the back burner by those sitting in power.

It has been three years since a single teaching position in the education department of KP was advertised due to which many candidates have become overage. The lack of criteria for age relaxation has added insult to injury for many others.

Visiting test-conducting sites for vacancies in different departments of KP has become akin to visiting a deserted land where finding any greenery is out of the question. The recruitment of a few posts being advertised through other agencies is progressing at a snail\’s pace, which adds another burden to the jobless youth. Banning new job advertisements without solid reason is not only harmful to the youth but also affects the progress of various departments that need staff to function.

Feeling desolate has become a daily experience for youth who spend 18 years obtaining a master\’s degree to become eligible for a job. According to a recent report, more than 12,000 vacancies in the education department of KP need attention.

Proving each other wrong and throwing mud at each other to prove who\’s loyal and who\’s not won\’t help satiate the youth jostling for jobs. The youth are considered the backbone of any country, and if this backbone isn\’t supported to become productive then expecting that they will utilise their energies for the development of country is akin to living in fool\’s paradise.

It\’s high time our politicians shun their personal grudges and focus on youth, as they have become fed up with their skirmishes.
