Afghan national arrested, stolen cash, jewellery recovered

CHITRAL: An Afghan national was arrested by the City police Chitral on the charge of stealing cash and valuables worth millions of rupees from the house of a compatriot in the town. 

In a statement, the police on Wednesday said that Atiq Ullah, a native of Afghanistan currently residing in Jang Bazar, had reported about theft of Rs319,000 cash and gold jewellery worth Rs4,200,000 (4.2 million) from his house on Sept 9, 2023. 

Taking serious notice of the incident, District Police Officer (DPO) Lower Chitral Ikram Ullah formed a team headed by SHO City SI Bulbul Hassan to trace the thief and recover the stolen items and cash. 

The team succeeded in tracing the suspect and arrested him within 24 hours and recovered the cash and valuables from his possession.

The suspected thief was identified by the police as Shafiq Ullah, an Afghan national. 

The cash and jewellery including one necklace, five bangles, two earrings, and one ring, were recovered from his pessession, said the statement.

  1. Police should also take legal action against the Afghan national for keeping that large amount of cash in his house. Thus is illegal and should be reported to other departments concerned.
