CHITRAL: A press release signed by 48 people belonging to Moghulandeh, Xang Bazaar and Sabzi Mandi after a meeting on Sunday said one Mr Anis Uddin was running a narcotics business from a nursery set up on a piece of land owned by a widow in the fruit and vegetable market.
On Friday, the alleged drug peddler swore and announced to abandon the illegal business in front of people at a mosque. The press release said that through drug peddling Anis was destroying the future of the youth of Chitral. It said that despite knowing well the police could not stop the man from carrying out his anti-social activity.
The local notables then decided to intervene and through counseling and advice persuaded him to abandon the illegal business for the sake of the future of the youth. Due to the efforts of the area notables, the release added, Anis decided to stop the illegal business and promised that from now onward neither he nor any of his family members would be involved in the illegal business.
Anis also promised that he would vacate the land of the widow of Muhammad Ibrahim and remove all his belongings from the site within one month. If he fails to abide by his promise within the given time, the people of Xang bazaar would be left with no other option but to forcibly evict him from the land and hand it over to its owner and got the drug peddling stopped from there.
The meeting was attended, among others, by Muhammad Idrees Hayat Khan, Zafar Hayat Advocate, Molana Saleem, Molana Rafiullah, retired Subedar Qamar Uddin, Salamat Shah and Molana Habibullah. –Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
