CHITRAL: While people from a cross section of society in Chitral have expressed resentment over the merger of PATA into the KP province because it would end the special status of Malakand Division, including Chitral, traders here held a rally welcoming the development.
It may be noted that under the 31st constitutional amendment, FATA will be merged into KP and so will Malakand division. If the special status is abolished, Malakand Division, including Chitral, will no longer remain a tax-free zone.
The rally of the traders led by union president Shabbir Ahmed started from Krup Risht and ended at bypass road. The participants claimed that the merger will usher in a new era of development and progress in FATA and PATA, including Chitral. –GH Farooqui
