Talking to ChitralToday, Nazimeen Forum\’s president and Tehreek Huqooq-e-Awam leader Muhammad Pervez said the campus was established in Booni by the previous PPP government to facilitate thousands of students belonging to upper Chitral. He said hundreds of students were enrolled at the campus. However, the PTI-led provincial government decided to wind up the campus instead of expanding it for the benefit of the students. He said the people of the area held protests on a number of occasions but the provincial government has not taken its anti-students decision back. He said as the local political leaders failed to highlight the issue, some workers of the PPP contacted Senator Rubina Khalid and informed her about the issue. The senator promised that she would take up the matter in the upper house of parliament and would also talk to authorities concerned. He said the students of the campus were happy after learning about the PPP\’s initiative and expressed the hope that the government would not close the campus in order to enable the students to acquire higher education at their doorsteps.]]>
University is an autonomous body. Establishing or closing a sub campus rests with the syndicate body of the university. The VC of a university is the chairman of the syndicate. The above news item is totally based on misunderstanding, misinterpretation and provides misinformation. The provincial govt has got nothing to do with this matter. Our “saviours”—political leaders— should discuss the matter with the Vice Chancellor or Governor/Chancellor, instead of politicizing it misguiding people. First of all I totally agree with Mr. Zahoor that university is an autonomous body and Vice Chancellor and governor would approve or reject any matter related to the university affairs based on the recommendation of the committee formed by University on specific issues. I have come across that the decision of the closure has been granted by HEC because of the fraudulent documents related to PhD staff members were provided to HEC, when HEC representatives visited the campus in order to scrutinize the staff members; they (HEC representatives) did not find a single PhD holder staff there. So, the HEC took immediate and immense action with respect to quality, and wrote to the concerned vice chancellor that either provide quality faculties or close the campus and don’t play with the future of innocent Chitrali youth.
This is the fact, now local people and representatives must demand for re-open and as well as for quality faculties . The representatives along with local people first consult with vice chancellor and then approach to Governor, KP to re-open the campus.

I agree with Maha. Opening a university in Pakistan has become like opening a shop. Both AWKU and SBBU campuses in Chitral do not meet even the minimum standards of a university but still running and making money. Think of a graduate coming out of these campuses who has not seen the capital of Pakistan…
During President Ayub Khan’s time, a request was made to him to approve opening of a university in Gilgit and he rejected it by saying that what is the quality and usefulness of a graduate from such a university who has not seen what a Rail / Train looks like?
